Biking Brisbane - this is how we roll

Mon, 26/07/2010 - 19:03

As we know, there are a million cycling blogs out there. As an ex-Brisneyland resident this one caught my eye, http://bikingbrisbane.com/, which I stumbled across via my old chums at Bicycle Queensland tweeting away. Winters up north are glorious - three months of clear blue skies and 20 degrees everyday, but I'd sure miss the Adelaide Hills. Enjoy.

Glass Watch

Sat, 24/07/2010 - 17:08

I had been waiting for the government to add to hospital watch, grocery watch, fuel watch and school watch but they have let me down. Anyway, take care coming down Cross road as there seems to be a higher than usual amount of glass in the bike lane. The bit just before Unley Road took care of a brand new Vittoria Corsa this morning. And a tip for young players - take a full CO2 canister with you, NOT the one you emptied last time. D'OH!

Hydration

Sat, 24/07/2010 - 00:39

Just after some thoughts/opinions on hydration.  So far I have only been on some flat rides of around 50-70km.  Each time I have taken two bottles with me - 700ml of sports drink, and 650 ml of water - and by the time I finish my ride, both are either empty, or I will have a bit of water left.

To me this seems to be excessive for such a short ride in cool conditions, and am a little concerned that when it warms up I will be needing to refill along the way.  And riding in the hills wi

Modbury to Murray Bridge

Fri, 23/07/2010 - 23:50

If the weathers fair I might be riding from Modbury to Murray Bridge next  Friday, stay overnight with outlaws and return on Saturday. I intend to ride up through Tea Tree Gully, Chain of Ponds, Birdwood, Palmer and Murray Bridge via the Palmer Murray Bridge road. I'm familiar with the roads and hills to Birdwood but Have never been on the Palmer Murray Bridge Road. Does anybody know this road and if they do is it a reasonable road for cycling.

Women on Track

Fri, 23/07/2010 - 22:20

I've recently started track cycling at the Superdome's Friday Novice nights. Ive learnt lots and found it a great challenge. Being novice it was mostly fellas and kids (i never once saw another female) but i was happy to challenge myself.

It turns out that starting tomorrow (24th July) there will be a Women Only Session each Saturday 12-2.

Magpie alerts...

Fri, 23/07/2010 - 20:14

Geeze, I think it's pretty early in the season...but ... I got zapped by a deadly serious bird at the top of Broughan Place this afternoon. I thought I'd been Yobbo-ed at first, maybe by a beer can ( extra light version), but by the second swoop, I realised I was intruding on some macho bird's space. By the time I cleared the Children's Playground on Le fever Tce, the bird had given up. I think I was lucky no-body in a car was tailgateing me at the time, ' cause I sure did wobble as I recover

London Bike Hire scheme

Fri, 23/07/2010 - 17:33

London starts its bike hire scheme next week
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/has-boris-started-a-cycling-revolution-2033454.html
Does anyone know how with these schemes they  keep the bikes distributed roughly evenly across all the hire points ?  For example what happens if everyone cycles to work and then decides to tube…

Let that be a lesson to y'all!

Fri, 23/07/2010 - 11:15

I've jiggered my back! And I knew I was going to jigger my back, because I was riding too much on the trainer, sitting up, no hands! And that always leads to a jiggered back. So don't do that!

Sigh! Stretching NSAIDS, glucosamine and stretching again and magnesium. Poop!

Fri, 23/07/2010 - 11:06

Ride the Worlds..

Fri, 23/07/2010 - 00:22

Anyone doing this?

http://www.geelong.ridetheworlds.com.au/

Can't believe the bloody Victorians are charging $300 for a 2 hour ride around suburban Geelong! Sounds like a good event but no chance of getting the nod from the Minister of Finance (wife!) at that price...

I think I could be trouble

Wed, 02/06/2010 - 20:53

Cycling home today I noticed that the old Captain Snooze shop opposite Modbury Triangle shopping centre has closed and Kathmandu are opening a new store there. It's like a toy shop and far too tempting. I bet there will be opening specials too. Will keep you informed.

Any witnesses accident at West Beach Sat 15/05/10?

Tue, 01/06/2010 - 23:39

I was travelling south along Military Rd just past the West Beach Caravan Park on Sat 15th May about 10.30am. My riding partner had decided to do a sprint to the bridge and was about 100 m ahead so I decided to do the same. I looked up ahead and there were no cars in sight - I looked down for ONLY 3 or 4 seconds to push harder and check my speedo - about 35kmh. Then BANG and I was on the ground having slammed straight into the back of a (presumably) parked car! The first cyclist to stop was an a…

Three near death experiences in one day...

Tue, 01/06/2010 - 22:38

For a while there I was all cool calm and collected on the bike, but today Mr Roadbike Rage returned.

630am riding south along Military Road a car comes along either West Lakes Blvd or Trimmer Parade. Shes not going stop, shes not going to stop, fek shes out onto Military Rd, narrowly avoiding T-boning me at 50km/h. I dont think the driver even saw me. I note the number plate but why bother calling the cops? Near misses don't count right.

650am riding east up Anzac Hwy at the i…

Rundle Mall Hit and Run

Mon, 31/05/2010 - 14:15

To the smug bastard on the MTB who collided with the lady in Rundle Mall this morning at 10.30. Yes you got away with it, but you left a lady in great pain and distress and a black mark on cyclists in general. You were going too fast, you weren't looking where you were going and if you ride like that all the time one day you will connect with something far more solid, you are scum and I have no doubt you will receive your just rewards some time soon.
